That's my King! Do you know Him?

To many Easter is about family lunches, egg hunts, a big bunny that brings you candy, downtime and relaxing. To me and my family Easter is:

On the first day (Good Friday) my Saviour...my Lord and King...was beaten, scorned, mocked, pierced, and stabbed to His death for no reason but to sacrifice himself....His PERFECT...sinless self...for our sake. He was hung on a cross by piercing nails through is hands and feet. For what? For us! Why? Because that is how much He loves us!! He knew this was His destiny..He knew what the Father had in store for Him...He knew it had to be done. How awesome and amazing that He did it...that He didn't back out...that He didn't give up on our salvation. People mocked Him...because He said He is the King of the Jews, they put a crown of thorns on His head....they gambled for His clothes...they told Him if He was indeed the Christ He should save Himself....what they didn't do was believe. They didn't believe that Jesus is God's only begotten Son. They didn't believe He is the King of the Jews. They didn't believe in His miracles. They didn't believe until.......Jesus cried out to God and gave up His spirit...and (Matthew 27: 51-52) 51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. 52 The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.

After that...they were terrified and said..."surely He was the Son of God". They then allowed for His body to be buried in a tomb but because they remembered Jesus saying that after three days He would rise again they had the tomb sealed and posted guards outside. They didn't want Jesus' disciples to be able to "steal" the body and claim that He rose from the grave. I think we know what happened next!!!

Matthew 28: 1-10After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them,“Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

So you see Easter really has nothing to do with all of the commercialized hype of the holiday. Yeah it is fun and it is important to spend time with your families. But never forget the real reason we celebrate Easter..Easter is about a Risen King...a Saviour who cheated death and came out with victory over the grave! Easter is the day I gave my life to Christ 19 years ago and it is the best life-changing decision I've ever made. And it was so simple that even I a 10 year old little girl could understand. Jesus suffered and died on a cross for me and you. He took on all the guilt of the world in that very moment just so we could be free from our sin and spend eternity with our Father in Heaven. On the third day He rose from the grave. He IS ALIVE and He will be coming back!

Jesus you are awesome and amazing! And just thinking about the day that EVERY toungue will confess and EVERY knee will bow to you amazes me!
